4/13/09 – Monday
I set up 4 fecals and scanned 2. We saw Joey the pug with the drain for a recheck and Dr. Williamson decided not to take it out and keep him on antibiotics. Sam and I vaccinated a poodle mix and she expressed the anal glands. I ran the poodle’s 4dx and scanned his fecal. We had 4 no shows and there was more down time then we had planned for. I listened as Sam made call backs to clients.
4/14/09 - Tuesday
Surgery day we had a neuter, declaw and a dental with extractions. The dental was on Bernie the pug from last week that had been left at the kennel and picked up after losing 4 pounds. Bernie had gained a pound back and was looking much healthier. I scrubbed the surgical sight for the neuter and did anesthesia for the neuter and the declaw. It was kinda creepy seeing the little cat toes on the table. That afternoon a very sweet border collie came in for an euthanasia, he had vestibular syndrome and wasn’t getting better. His owner was very nice and I stayed with him to help keep the dog on the table in the room while Dr. Williamson and Sam got the solution together. It was weird after the owner left, I have witnessed and participated in euthanasia’s before but this time I cried a little before I started bagging. I am sure this is mostly because I have close personal relationships with my teacher’s border collies and it caught me a little off guard. After that we had routine exams and 4Dx test.
- I was sick so I missed clinic on 4/18 and 4/20 -
4/21/09 - Tuesday
Surgery day. We had only on dental and tons of annual appointments. Sam and I went over how to give after care instructions. I ran the pre-surgical blood work on the abaxis chemistry machine. We had a dog, Dusty, who was in all day for a Dexamethasone suppression test, where you take a blood draw before giving a dose of Dexamethasone one 4 hours after and the last 8 hours later (it turns out he has cushings). Pipit a Am. Staff came in for staple removal, a glucose test.
4/23/09 – Thursday
Surgery day. We had a spay with extractions, a neuter and dental with a massive lump removal. . I ran the pre-surgical blood work for all of the anaimls while Sam was getting the induction and pre-meds drawn up. We then gave the premeds. I monitored anesthesia for the spay and the neuter. We also had a first year vet student Evan, he wants to be a large animal vet. It was neat to talk to him about what it is like for vet students vs. vet tech. Nekko a 12 year old lab came my first week for a consult for a TPLO after her dog jumped off the deck. Well sometime over this last weekend she stopped walking all together.
4/24/09 - Saturday
Euthenized an 18 year old cat. We had a surgery consult for hip surgery on a pure bred Newfouldland, 180 pounds and very nice. We had 2 vaccine appointments and I got to administer them.
